Frequently Asked Questions (WIP)

*I put a shout out on IG and this is what the people asked me…

Why did you call your business ‘the tides’?

I grew up on the beach. There’s a sense of safety there as well as a sense of the unknown. It’s free spirited, wild and also gentle. When I smell the sea it’s like my shoulders drop and i breathe from my belly instead of my chest. Any journey we’re on, specifically self-care or healing, isn’t linear - it ebbs and flows, we ebb and flow like the tides of the sea. We can’t control it. Sometimes you look at and hear the waves and they’re soft and rhythmic, meditative. Sometimes aggressive, crashing, like they’re bursting out. This is healing too, this is us. The waves are storytellers, the tides, governed by the moms phases too; high, low, rip, expansive, scary, comforting but always, in their own way, healing; emotionally and medicinally. There’s energy in the sea, in the tides, and for those of us who are ND, the energetic pull of the sea often calmness and also adrenaline.

How do you offer safe spaces for people?

I don’t like the terminology ‘safe space’ because every individual has different needs, and experiences in different ways.A safe space for one person won’t always be I try to offer safer spaces and that means asking the right questions and being comfortable if I’m corrected, thinking bigger than just me, being open, and always willing to adjust treatments and experiences to fit in with the needs and preferences of whoever books in.

why do you position your brand as neuro-inclusive?

Because The Tides is what it is ONLY because of this. I am ADHD (likely AUDHD if I’m being honest). I’m also just turned 51 so that’s a whole other crash of waves added in. The Tides came from me not always feeling comfortable in group and 121 settings when stepping into that ‘wellness world’ and the little sensory issues or inconsistencies that would throw me off track. Chatting to friends and people who sat in the ND, peri, post and menopausal demographic I found we had similar icks, who felt the same way and would get triggered, overstimulated, anxious or overwhelmed by walking into a retrofitted space or event. I could sense there was a gap so I took that and ran with it.
